Lidl has announced the expansion of its Lidl & Go self-scanning trial to an additional 37 stores in the UK. This innovative service allows customers to conveniently scan products using the Lidl Plus app on their smartphones while shopping, streamlining the checkout process and saving time.
The rollout of this feature will be phased, with availability for shoppers in Scotland, the South East, and the wider South of England throughout July. Following a successful trial at seven initial stores – Airdrie, Cardiff, Epsom, Glenrothes, Kingston, Guilford, and Eastleigh – Lidl is now introducing the service to more locations.
Chief Customer Officer at Lidl GB, Louise Weise, expressed positive feedback from customers who appreciate the control and visibility the self-scanning feature offers, along with the flexibility to shop at their own pace. The company plans to continue refining the service based on customer feedback.
In addition to the Lidl & Go expansion, Lidl has revamped its loyalty scheme, Lidl Plus, where users now earn one point for every £1 spent in-store. These points can be converted into coupons for free products or discounts on future purchases. The new system replaces the previous monthly spending thresholds rewards, offering users more flexibility in earning rewards.
While some customers have raised concerns about potentially needing to spend more to earn rewards, Lidl assures that users can benefit from various bonus points opportunities, such as Rewards of the Week, double points, triple points, or free points on selected products.
