Aldi is implementing a new trial by closing select stores an hour earlier than usual. Instead of closing at 10pm, these stores will now shut at 9pm. While some stores have already adopted this change, others are expected to follow suit in the upcoming month.
The specific locations affected by the early closure have not been disclosed by Aldi, but signs are being displayed in the stores to inform customers. According to reports, an Aldi employee in Heanor, Derbyshire, mentioned on Facebook that their store would close at 9pm from Monday to Saturday, with Sunday hours remaining unchanged, as part of a trial period that may become permanent.
In a statement, Aldi emphasized its commitment to offering the lowest prices to customers and mentioned its continuous efforts to provide increased savings through an efficient business model.
Aldi currently operates 1,084 stores, with approximately 48 already closing at 9pm. The supermarket aims to expand its presence in the UK by reaching 1,500 stores in the long run.
In other news, Aldi announced plans to open 16 new stores in the coming months, with locations including Watford, Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common in the West Midlands. Additionally, 25 existing stores across the UK will undergo upgrades, featuring enhancements such as more shopping space and energy-efficient fridge doors.
Furthermore, Aldi will enhance its bakery, health and beauty, and fresh food sections in selected stores, with improvements varying by location. Cities like Liverpool, London, Aberdeen, Nottingham, and Manchester are among those slated for store enhancements. Moreover, extensions are planned for stores in York, Liverpool, and Yarm to provide wider aisles and a more spacious shopping experience.
These enhancements are part of a substantial investment of £300 million into existing stores, alongside a commitment of £370 million for opening new stores nationwide.
