In Birmingham, the oldest identical twins in the UK, Bill and John Bowdler, have spent 82 years together, sharing not only their lives and careers but also a remarkable bond that they credit for their good health. Born on March 21, 1944, the inseparable brothers have done everything in sync, from wearing matching outfits to working the same two jobs. A quirky difference between them is Bill’s love for brown sauce, which John cannot stand.
Upon completing school in 1960, both brothers joined a wholesale distribution firm in Birmingham. When the company folded, they transitioned together to become postmen. In a remarkable display of their lifelong connection, they even underwent cataract surgery on the same eye at the same time in the same facility.
Now in retirement, John continues the tradition of selecting matching outfits for them daily, a practice instilled by their mother. Their closeness extends to finishing each other’s sentences and a shared aversion to marriage. The brothers’ intertwined lives also involved caring for relatives and seamlessly transitioning between careers, from their initial job to their postman roles.
