Arthur Fery Advances to Wimbledon Third Round

Date:

Arthur Fery stands as the sole remaining British singles player at the prestigious Wimbledon tournament. He is set to compete against top-ranked Belgian player Zizou Bergs in the third round at SW19, following the path of his former professional tennis player mother.

This year, local contenders have faced challenges at the All England Club, leaving only Fery to represent the home country in the men’s singles event. Hailing from a nearby location to the renowned Wimbledon courts, Fery is shouldering the national hopes on his own.

The 23-year-old secured victory over Damir Dzumhur in the opening round and displayed resilience to overcome Otto Virtanen in a thrilling second-round match on Court 18, winning 5–7, 7–6(3), 6–3, 6–3. Fery is scheduled to return to the same court for his upcoming match against Bergs, marking his debut into the latter stages of a Grand Slam event.

Supported by his parents, Fery is poised for his first-ever appearance in the last-32 stage of a Major tournament. A glimpse into his family background reveals his father, Loic Fery, a notable football club president, and his mother, a former professional tennis player who later contributed to the LTA.

Maintaining strong ties to the football realm through his father, Loic Fery, who once owned Ligue 1 club Lorient, Fery’s family connections extend to notable sports figures like Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a minority owner of Manchester United’s rival, Nice.

In a significant move, Loic sold his remaining shares in FC Lorient to American businessman Bill Foley’s Black Knight Football Club in January 2026, with Loic continuing his role as the club president. Reflecting on his journey into club ownership, Loic, with an estimated net worth of £275 million, emphasized his competitive spirit and strategic business decisions that have steered the club towards financial stability over the years.

Meanwhile, Arthur’s mother, Olivia, enjoyed a successful tennis career, clinching two singles titles and achieving a commendable 33-25 record in singles matches before retiring. She also participated in the 1991 French Open and later contributed to the LTA.
