“Royal Mail Employee Verbally Attacks Young Woman on Edinburgh Bus”

Date:

An inquiry has been initiated following a video that captured a Royal Mail employee verbally attacking a young woman.

Jennifer Rain, aged 22, expressed feeling “terrified” when the man in uniform verbally abused her on an Edinburgh bus on June 30.

Living in the capital, the chef recounted how a Lothian Buses driver compassionately allowed her to board without her disabled bus pass at Haymarket, as reported by the Daily Record.

Recalling the incident, Jennifer mentioned, “I was heading home from Haymarket on the bus. I couldn’t locate my disability bus pass; I must have misplaced it. Fortunately, the bus driver was understanding and let me on without it.”

As she boarded, a man at the front of the bus began shouting profanities at her, causing Jennifer to fear the situation might escalate. In response, she started recording the incident on her phone.

The video captured the man hurling verbal abuse at her and demanding she stop recording.

He aggressively stated, “You’re a fool. If you can’t afford it, tough luck. The bus driver let you on without payment, and that’s not right.”

Subsequently, he demanded she put down her phone, questioning if she was recording him.

When Jennifer confirmed she was recording, the man stood up, crossed the aisle, and verbally threatened her, insisting she delete the recording.

In response, Jennifer firmly told him to leave her alone.

The bus driver intervened, warning the man to calm down or face being removed from the bus.

Despite the warning, the man continued berating Jennifer until she explained her situation regarding the missing bus pass.

He then criticized her for taking advantage of the situation and proceeded to insult her, claiming he had paid his fare while she had not.

Jennifer described feeling terrified and frozen in fear during the incident, emphasizing the need for serious action given the threatening behavior towards a person with a disability.

She mentioned that only a few other passengers were present, and no one intervened until another woman reported the incident online.

Both the police and Royal Mail are investigating the matter, with a Royal Mail spokesperson condemning the behavior and promising full cooperation with the authorities.

Police Scotland confirmed receiving a report of abusive behavior on the bus and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances.
