Date:

Prince Harry shared his thoughts on England’s heartbreaking World Cup loss during a surprise appearance at a red carpet event in New York City. The Duke of Sussex attended the TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in Sports event, where he was commended for his role in establishing the Invictus Games.

During the event, Harry was asked about England’s defeat in the World Cup, expressing his sadness over the outcome. His brother, Prince William, also expressed disappointment over the loss but praised the team’s efforts throughout the tournament.

While at the red carpet event, Harry complimented the photographers for their politeness. TIME recognized Harry for his work with the Invictus Games, an international sports competition he founded for armed forces personnel and veterans worldwide.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the Invictus Games, Harry emphasized the transformative power of sports in changing lives and highlighted the need to expand the games to benefit more countries. Harry recently visited the UK to mark the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, accompanied by his wife Meghan Markle and their children.

This visit marked the first time the monarch, King Charles, and Queen Camilla had met Archie and Lilibet in over four years. Harry and Meghan had not visited the UK together since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
