American boxer Hannah Rapp, who recently contended for the WBC women’s featherweight championship, has tragically passed away following a fatal collision while riding her bicycle.
The 26-year-old Rapp was reportedly struck by a car that abruptly stopped and then reversed into her, as per the Brazos County sheriff’s office. The driver involved has been taken into custody and charged with manslaughter. Rapp had vied for the featherweight title in June, where she was defeated by Tiara Brown in Orlando, marking her record at 8-1-1.
In a statement, her promoter Most Valuable Promotions expressed, “Hannah was not just a talented athlete but also a respected member of the boxing community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Hannah’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and well-wishers during this challenging period. We are appreciative of having been part of her journey and will commemorate her legacy in the coming weeks.”
WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman paid tribute, stating, “She was not only an exceptional boxer but also an invaluable part of our boxing fraternity.” Tiara Brown fondly remembered Rapp as the “best dance partner I have ever faced professionally” and shared that Rapp had requested her autograph before their bout. Brown added, “It was touching because despite preparing for a tough fight, she still wanted my autograph. We had a remarkable match, and it was an honor to share the ring with her.”
Originally from Indiana, Rapp turned professional in 2024 while maintaining her full-time role as a fire and life safety inspector.
