The Met Office has forecasted a welcome spell of rain this week following a period of high temperatures and dry conditions. Last Friday, the national weather agency reported that the UK had experienced temperatures exceeding 30C for 13 consecutive days. Additionally, central and south-east England had endured the longest stretch without recorded rainfall this century, lasting from July 2 to July 15.
Extended dry spells can have severe consequences for agriculture, with wildfires breaking out in various parts of the UK. However, some regions are expected to see showers throughout the week. According to the latest Week Ahead forecast from the Met Office, meteorologist Clare Nasir anticipates “patchy rain” in the far north and north-west of Scotland, with scattered showers in Northern Ireland.
Temperatures are forecasted to reach 25C to 26C in the central belt of Scotland, South Wales, central England, and the south-east. Although not as hot as the previous week, these temperatures will still be relatively warm. Tomorrow, a weather front is expected to bring some showery rain, particularly in the far north of Scotland, with eastern parts of Wales and central and southern England experiencing warm temperatures.
Thursday will see increased humidity and more rain showers. Showers are likely to develop along the east coast and inland areas throughout the morning and afternoon. While rain is predicted in central England on Thursday, it is expected to be light and scattered. Bright and sunny conditions are forecasted for most areas, with Wales, central England, and southern England experiencing warm temperatures once again.
On Friday, showery rain is expected in central and northern parts of Scotland, while other regions can anticipate a fine day with sunny spells. Temperatures could reach 28C in London, 24-25C in South Wales, the Midlands, and Yorkshire, and 21-22C in Northern Ireland and central Scotland. The Met Office suggests that more rain may be on the way over the weekend as high pressure weakens, allowing weather fronts to bring much-needed precipitation to dry regions in the UK.
