A father successfully located his 16-year-old daughter, who was trapped in a car submerged in a water-filled ditch, using a tracking app on his phone. The incident occurred in Kent, where the girl, along with two other individuals, was involved in a car crash that resulted in the death of her companions.
Despite the girl’s phone losing its location signal, her father utilized Life360, a real-time location-sharing app, to determine her latest coordinates. On January 3, just before midnight, he discovered the overturned vehicle near Old Ferry Road and promptly alerted emergency services, leading to a rapid response involving paramedics, firefighters, police, and the coast guard. Tragically, the two other occupants of the car, Adam and Chloe-Ann, did not survive the accident.
The surviving girl, whose identity remains undisclosed for legal reasons, recounted the events to the authorities, indicating that the driver, Adam, failed to navigate a sharp bend in the road, causing the vehicle to veer off and overturn. Investigations revealed that Adam was driving without a license and insurance, and there was speculation that he was driving too fast for the road conditions.
During the ordeal, the girl found herself trapped in the back seat until Chloe-Ann, who was in the front seat, encouraged her to release her seatbelt. Chloe-Ann made efforts to contact emergency services and her family but was unsuccessful. She also attempted to keep Adam’s head above water while apologizing repeatedly. Despite the girl’s attempts to communicate with her friends, they eventually became unresponsive.
Following the tragic incident, floral tributes were left at the crash site, and over £15,000 was raised in two separate GoFundMe campaigns for the families of Chloe and Adam. The coroner expressed his deepest sympathies to the families, labeling the circumstances as a “very tragic state of affairs.” Accidental death verdicts were recorded, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the immense loss experienced by the affected families.
