Toddlers were swiftly evacuated to safety following a fire incident at a school in Wales during the summer break.
The children at the Lots of Tots holiday club were moved out after witnesses spotted significant flames and thick smoke billowing from windows at Awel Y Mor Primary School in Port Talbot one morning.
Staff at a Flying Start group, located in a separate area of the school, acted promptly to ensure the safety of the children at the club. They were commended for their composed and efficient evacuation efforts. Unfortunately, the fire led to the cancellation of the club activities for the remainder of the week.
Firefighters from various stations including Port Talbot, Neath Swansea Central, Morriston, and Swansea West Fire Stations collaborated to contain the blaze. They successfully managed the situation and departed the scene by approximately 12:45 pm.
A representative from the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service stated that crews were summoned to the school due to a fire involving Sandwich Panels. Firefighters utilized specialized equipment to extinguish the fire before concluding their operations by 12:43 pm.
In response to the incident, the Lots of Tots group announced that they would remain closed for the week to assess damages and plan for a safe return to the undamaged premises. They expressed gratitude towards the staff for their composed response and ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
