The family of a two-year-old boy is seeking donations to fund a memorial bench inspired by the child’s favorite TV show after he tragically passed away following a swimming pool incident in Spain.
The young boy, Hartley Wareham, who was the younger sibling of Exeter City forward Jayden Wareham, lost his life earlier this month. During an inquest that commenced recently, it was revealed that Hartley’s father retrieved him from the water, initiated CPR, and called for an ambulance with the help of neighbors.
Medical responders managed to revive Hartley’s heartbeat before he was swiftly transported to the hospital, where he received intensive care on life support. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated, leading to his passing five days later.
In memory of Hartley, his father, Darren Wareham, has established a fundraising campaign on JustGiving to create a special Hey Duggee memorial bench dedicated to his son’s love for the show.
Describing their beloved child, the family shared, “Our beautiful little boy, Hartley, sadly passed away at just 2 years old. In his brief life, he brought immense love, joy, and laughter into our lives beyond measure.”
“Hartley adored Hey Duggee above all else, and his joy was found in our garden, where he explored, played, and smiled. To honor his legacy, we aim to install a unique Hey Duggee memorial bench in the cherished garden where he spent countless happy hours.”
The initiative aims to provide a comforting spot for the family to reminisce about the precious moments shared with Hartley and find solace during challenging times when his absence is deeply felt.
Responding to inquiries from friends and relatives seeking ways to honor Hartley’s memory, the family opted for a lasting tribute rather than traditional gestures like flowers or gifts. They expressed that any surplus funds raised beyond the memorial’s expenses will be allocated to grief counseling to help the family navigate their loss together, with donations already surpassing £3,500.
Exeter City FC has extended its support to the fundraising drive, emphasizing its commitment to assisting Jayden Wareham during this difficult period and emphasizing the importance of respecting the Wareham family’s privacy.
Acknowledging the fundraiser, the club stated, “The Wareham family is seeking donations to create a bespoke Hey Duggee Bench in memory of their son Hartley, who tragically passed away at the tender age of two. The bench will serve as a special space for them to stay close to him and cherish the wonderful memories they shared.”
