“Manhunt for Berlin Pride Attacker Abdul Ballout”

Date:

A massive manhunt is currently ongoing in Germany following a tragic incident where a woman lost her life and 16 individuals were wounded during an attack on Berlin’s Pride festival. Chancellor Friedrich Merz condemned the assault, labeling it as an assault on society, while the suspected perpetrator, 21-year-old Abdul Ballout, allegedly drove a van into the crowd before fleeing.

In addition to the vehicular attack, multiple people were also stabbed. Authorities issued a warning advising the public to avoid the suspect, considering him potentially armed and dangerous. There are strong indications that the incident could be an act of terrorism.

The sequence of events at the Berlin Pride attack unfolded when a white van crashed into Tiergarten park in the heart of the German capital around 10 pm local time. The assault occurred during the closing celebrations of the Pride festival, known as Christopher Street Day, following a prominent parade through the city center.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud noise followed by screams, with one individual recounting the confusion initially due to the festive ambiance. The situation became clear as law enforcement swiftly evacuated the park and instructed attendees to disperse.

The Berlin Pride event attracted a significant crowd, estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands, making it one of Europe’s largest LGBT celebrations. The closing festivities at Brandenburg Gate came to an abrupt halt around 10:15 pm, with organizers urging people to leave and avoid the park route.

A witness, Julian Miethig, expressed shock upon learning about the incident and witnessing the influx of emergency services at the scene. The atmosphere turned somber as the community grappled with the tragic events.

Authorities confirmed the fatality of a woman in the attack, with three individuals sustaining life-threatening injuries, eight in serious condition, and five with minor injuries. The van involved in the attack remained at the scene, visibly damaged from the impact with a tree.

The suspect, identified as Abdul B, has ties to Islamist groups in Berlin and was later revealed as Abdul Ballout by a local newspaper. Ballout, a German citizen of Lebanese descent, was born in Berlin in 2005 and had been released from juvenile detention earlier this year.

Berlin police spokesperson Florian Nath highlighted the suspect’s background within Islamic circles in the city but stated that specific motives were yet to be determined. Ballout was described as tall, slim, with black hair, dressed in a black hoodie and white trousers during the incident.
