“Couple Sentenced for Cocaine Found in 12-Week-Old”

Date:

A couple has been sentenced following the discovery of cocaine traces in a 12-week-old infant under their care. Kevin Fields, 29, received a two-year prison term, while Ella Jones, 28, was given a suspended two-year sentence after admitting to the mistreatment of a child.

During the trial at Chester Crown Court, concerns were raised by a pediatrician leading to police involvement in the case. The baby was found unconscious upon admission to A&E on May 27, 2025. Observations at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Cheshire indicated that Fields and Jones seemed impaired by drugs and showed little regard for the child’s well-being.

Tests revealed cocaine in the baby’s system, believed to be the cause of the child’s unresponsiveness. Fields and Jones confessed to using cocaine in the presence of the infant during police interrogations. They acknowledged a previous medical incident with the child but failed to seek medical help as the child had recovered consciousness.

Investigations uncovered that Fields had procured cocaine from a dealer a day before the baby’s second episode. Both individuals pleaded guilty and received their sentences last Tuesday. Jones received a suspended two-year sentence and additional requirements, while Fields was sentenced to two years in prison.

Commenting on the case, Cheshire Police Sergeant Ann Muldowney emphasized the severe health risks associated with Class A drugs like cocaine, highlighting the irresponsibility shown by Fields and Jones in neglecting the child’s needs. Muldowney urged anyone with concerns about child neglect or abuse to report to Cheshire Police for thorough investigations.
