Tragic Beach Incident Claims Lives of Mother and Daughter

Date:

A tragic incident at West Mersea Beach has left a teenage girl and her mother dead, while their young relative, a seven-year-old boy, is in critical condition, according to police reports. Sameeha Rahman, 15, her mother Shelina Rahman, 41, and Musa Ahmed were among a group of family members who encountered difficulties in the water on July 22.

After the family found themselves in trouble, they made significant efforts to assist each other, as confirmed by Essex Police. Sameeha and Shelina Rahman, hailing from the Ilford area in east London, lost their lives, whereas Musa was airlifted to a hospital where he remains in critical condition. Several other family members were also hospitalized but are now in recovery.

Detective Chief Inspector Al Pitcher, leading the investigation, expressed ongoing support for the affected family during this challenging period. He mentioned that the family had been enjoying a day at the beach when the tragedy unfolded, and efforts are underway to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.

Key witnesses have been interviewed, and the investigation involves collaboration with various partners such as the fire service, local council, and coastguard. Chief Inspector Michelle Sparks, district commander for Colchester, appreciated the local community’s response and assistance during the incident, emphasizing the strength and support shown during times of tragedy.

Essex Police received a call from the ambulance service at 5.35pm on July 22 regarding individuals in distress near Seaview Avenue. The East of England Ambulance Service transported one patient by air and three by road to the hospital following the incident at Sea View Holiday Park.

Musa’s father, Shahin Ahmed, issued a statement calling for a review of safety measures at West Mersea Beach, including improved life-saving equipment and clear warning signage. While acknowledging that nothing can ease their current pain, he hopes that lessons learned will help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
