“Tragic Accident Claims Life of Teen at Camp”

A tragic incident resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy when a tree collapsed on him during a holiday camp outing. The unfortunate event occurred on July 27 at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan in Antioch. While leading campers on a hike, two staff members encountered a fallen tree leaning against another tree along the trail. The victim, identified as Camden Robert Callihan, was a camper at the camp. Despite being cautioned not to touch the tree, as the victim and a friend passed under it, the friend inadvertently caused the tree to fall on Callihan. Efforts were made to save him at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have classified the incident as accidental. The police report on July 27 confirmed the accidental death of the teenager at Camp Widjiwagan. Camp counselors had warned the campers not to touch the fallen tree, but the fatal accident occurred when the victim’s friend made contact with the tree, leading to the tragic outcome. After the incident, emergency care was provided on-site before the victim was rushed to the hospital, where he passed away shortly after his arrival. YMCA Camp Widjiwagan has not responded to requests for comment following the incident.
