An American man named Tyler Wilkin, 35, was fatally shot in a remote area of Puerto Rico near Playa la Selva. His body was discovered with a gunshot wound to the back of his head on July 10 at around 6 am. Authorities suspect the shooting was executed at close range, indicating a targeted killing.
Wilkin, who had moved to Puerto Rico from Ohio in January 2024, was dropped off by his girlfriend at the beach on July 8 for a two-day camping trip. His final message, received by his girlfriend Iva Mo around 2 am, mentioned the unsettling presence of “the howler.” Concerns arose when Wilkin did not send his usual morning message at 6 am. His body was later found in the mangroves by a beachgoer during a morning walk.
Despite ongoing investigations, no arrests have been made in connection with the killing. Mo suspects that Wilkin may have been a victim of an attempted robbery. Family and friends have criticized the Puerto Rico police for the lack of progress in solving the case.
