Greek authorities have identified a key suspect in the investigation of the death of a Scottish woman found in a suitcase. The body of Elisabeth-Jane Ross, also known as Lisa, was discovered in an abandoned car park in Athens by a homeless individual. Police suspect that Ross, aged 38 and hailing from Edinburgh, may have been deceased for approximately eight days, with no apparent signs of physical harm or struggle on her body.
The focus is on locating a man named ‘Markos,’ known to frequent the area where Ross was found. Described as a homeless drug user and heavy drinker in his 40s, Markos is recognized for his aggressive behavior and extensive tattoos. Greek authorities are intensifying their search for Markos, who has not been seen in the vicinity since the crime scene was established.
Following the discovery of Ross’s body, investigators revealed that text messages were sent from her phone posthumously, indicating an attempt to deceive others into believing she was alive. Ross had traveled to Greece from the US via Cyprus and was residing in Athens with Greek acquaintances before planning to visit supposed “American friends” in Kypseli.
Greek police are diligently working to identify these individuals and await toxicology test results. It is also reported that Ross had a history of aiding vulnerable social groups in Greece, showcasing a compassionate side likely driven by her Christian beliefs. Police Scotland is collaborating with Greek authorities, supporting Ross’s family in Scotland during this investigation.
