Police are currently searching for a man who escaped from a prison van while being transported to court. The individual, identified as Stephen Grzyb, 22, from the West Derby/Dovecot area of Liverpool, managed to flee from the custody of GEOAmey, a prisoner transport contractor, en route from Belle Vale custody suite to Liverpool Magistrates Court. The incident occurred as the van arrived outside the court premises at approximately 10am, with Grzyb running in the direction of The Strand down Red Cross Street.
Grzyb faced charges related to a domestic burglary and is described as a white male with short dark hair, last seen wearing a navy T-shirt and navy shorts. Merseyside Police issued a public appeal for information regarding his escape, emphasizing their efforts to locate him through extensive inquiries and patrols. T/Inspector Bethan Hannon highlighted the importance of public cooperation in reporting any sightings of Grzyb to facilitate his prompt recapture.
Authorities urge anyone with information on Grzyb’s whereabouts to contact the police immediately by dialing 999. Additionally, individuals can report any sightings anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or through their website. The police have intensified their search efforts, including foot patrols and CCTV investigations across the city center, to ensure Grzyb is swiftly returned to custody.
