A tragic incident occurred in Turkey where a four-year-old boy, Muhammed Aras Temel, passed away after falling asleep in his family’s car during scorching 40C temperatures. Muhammed suffered a seizure while inside the vehicle, prompting his family to rush him to the hospital, but sadly, medical efforts could not save him.
The heartbreaking event took place in the rural Ekinciler neighborhood of Mazıdağı district, Mardin, in southern Turkey. Muhammed reportedly entered the car and fell asleep, leading to an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
After realizing Muhammed had been in the car for an extended period and had fallen ill, his family hurried him to Mazıdağı State Hospital, where it was determined that he had experienced a seizure. He was then transferred to Mardin Training and Research Hospital, where he eventually passed away. An autopsy is scheduled to provide further insights, as per reports from Turkish outlet Hurriyet.
This incident coincides with Turkey facing scorching temperatures this summer, with Mardin recording temperatures as high as 40C. Last month, Antalya experienced a record-breaking temperature of 46.1C in July since data collection began in 1930, alongside wildfires impacting parts of the country.
Tragically, similar incidents have occurred in Europe and the United States this summer, where children have lost their lives in cars during extreme heat. In June, brothers Kassim Benouali, aged four, and Sadek, aged two, were found unresponsive in a car outside their grandmother’s home in Carpentras, southern France, during a heatwave. The family mourned the loss, with the boys’ grandmother, Fatiha, sharing the heartbreak and efforts made to keep the children cool amidst soaring temperatures.
As tributes pour in for these unfortunate events, it serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers posed by extreme heat, particularly for vulnerable individuals like young children left unattended in hot vehicles.
