The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for six counties on Tuesday, focusing on Northern Ireland from midday until 9pm. People in flood-prone areas are advised to prepare a flood plan and emergency flood kit. The weather agency anticipates some flooding in homes and businesses, potentially affecting driving conditions with spray, standing water, or hail causing longer travel times by car and bus.
Train service delays are possible, along with potential damage to buildings from lightning strikes. The Met Office also warns of a likelihood of short-term power outages and service disruptions. Northern Ireland may experience up to 30mm of rain in just two hours, accompanied by strong winds, gusts, and hail during the heaviest showers.
In addition to flood preparations, individuals are urged to ready themselves for potential power cuts by gathering essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities. Despite the ongoing high temperatures in most parts of the country, the warning remains in place.
Temperatures are expected to reach 34C in London, 32C in the Midlands, 29C in the north-west, and 27C in Cardiff, while cooler conditions are predicted for Northern Ireland and Scotland with highs of 21C in Belfast and Glasgow. The BBC Weather forecast indicates cloudy conditions with rain moving in, especially in the north and west tonight, with tomorrow likely to bring showery rain in Scotland and a mix of sunny spells, patchy clouds, and scattered showers elsewhere.
