A recent development by a coroner has brought to light that a man previously cleared of his wife’s murder is now deemed responsible for her death. Donald McPherson, a convicted fraudster, escaped charges related to the death of his wife, Paula Leeson, after a judge’s decision during his trial at Manchester Crown Court in 2021. Notably, McPherson had taken out a significant life insurance policy on his wife shortly before her demise in 2017, which was initially considered an accidental drowning during a holiday trip in Denmark.

Despite his attempts to inherit his wife’s substantial estate, valued at £4.4 million, McPherson was prevented from doing so by the Leeson family, who operate a plant hire business in south Manchester.
