Chad Dupuis, a resident of Slave Lake, Alberta, and a maintenance supervisor at Carson Pegasus Provincial Park for the past four years, shared a recent encounter with wildlife that left him surprised. After a long day of preparing camping sites, Dupuis returned to his Winnebago to find his steak missing. Initially suspecting a nearby black bear, he discovered a chewed window screen, indicating a smaller animal’s intrusion. This incident served as a reminder of the forest’s wild inhabitants and the importance of respecting their habitat. Upon hearing a growl under his bed, Dupuis bravely investigated, revealing a pine marten, a weasel-like creature, which eventually fled. Although his dinner plans were foiled, Dupuis embraced the unexpected wildlife encounter as a memorable campground tale to share with his colleagues.
