Kayla McBride Makes WNBA History with 10 3-Pointers

Date:

Minnesota Lynx guard Kayla McBride put on a memorable performance for the local fans on Sunday at the Target Center. She set a new WNBA single-game record by sinking 10 3-pointers in a 103-90 win against the Dallas Wings. McBride’s sharp shooting behind the arc, making 10 out of 14 attempts, led her to a career-best 43 points, captivating the home crowd that cheered her on to break the record.

The historic moment occurred with 2:23 remaining in the game, extending the Lynx’s lead to 98-83. McBride exited the court to a thunderous applause with 1:21 left, expressing her gratitude to the fans and the team for their unwavering support. She emphasized her attachment to Minneapolis and her desire to excel for the fans who embrace her with love and appreciation, motivating her to perform at her peak.

Notably, the previous record for most 3-pointers in a game stood at nine, achieved eight times before, including twice this season by Toronto’s Marina Mabrey and Rhyne Howard of Atlanta. McBride’s exceptional display also contributed to the Lynx setting a new franchise record for 3-pointers in a single game, making 18 of 39 attempts. The victory marked their 12th win in 13 games and secured a playoff spot as the first team to do so.

Minnesota’s offensive prowess has been evident with four 100-point games in their recent six outings, including a 98-point performance in a win over Las Vegas. However, Sunday belonged to McBride, who stole the spotlight for the Lynx faithful who have supported her for over 5 years. Reflecting on her milestone, McBride expressed gratitude for her enduring career in the league and affirmed the decision to return to Minnesota for the season had been rewarding.
