Canada’s women’s flag football team secured the world championship title by defeating the United States at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) world championships in Düsseldorf, Germany. The women’s team, having already advanced to the final with a 20-6 victory over top-ranked Mexico, concluded a flawless tournament with a 27-20 triumph over the Americans.

Frederique Morneau impressed with three touchdown receptions for Canada, while quarterback Sara Parker connected with Caroline Moquin-Joubert for another score. Parker, who recorded a total of 23 touchdown passes, was named the most valuable player of the women’s tournament.

The Canadian men also had a successful outing, securing a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics by defeating Mexico 34-26 in the third-place match. Quarterback Michael O’Connor led the team with 294 yards and five touchdowns, with former NFL tight-end Antony Auclair contributing 149 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions. Daniel Petermann and James Drysdale also found the end zone for Canada.

Both the Canadian men’s and women’s teams will compete at the LA28 Olympics, as the top two teams from each flag football event, excluding the host Americans, earned qualification. Canada’s journey to the Olympics was a result of hard work and dedication, according to head coach Paul LaPolice, who praised the athletes for their performance when it mattered most.

The men’s final saw the U.S. emerge victorious over Italy with a score of 42-26, while Canada’s success in both the men’s and women’s events signifies a promising future for Canadian flag football.
