Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area following the disappearance of a pilot who was last seen flying in that region a week ago. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating search and rescue efforts by air and water in Ontario, announced the discovery of the plane on Wolf Lake within Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality.
The case has now been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person investigation, as confirmed by the JRCC on their social media platform. While not explicitly confirming the identity of the missing 73-year-old pilot named David, the JRCC mentioned that the plane was found in the specified location.
According to a statement by Durham police on Saturday, David departed from Oshawa Airport in the aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday with an expected return time of 9:30 a.m. It was noted that he typically flies in the region to the south of Kawartha Lakes township and to the north of Lake Scugog.
Previously, the Ontario Provincial Police had described the missing aircraft as a small blue homemade plane bearing the marking “FOFZ” on its tail. David, an experienced pilot, is described as being five feet seven inches tall, slim, with black grey hair and a moustache.
