A fatal shooting occurred at a rave in the northern Swiss canton of Aargau, resulting in one fatality and five individuals sustaining injuries in the early hours of Sunday, as per local authorities and media reports. The police are actively seeking the perpetrator, with motives and the precise circumstances of the incident remaining unclear.
According to cantonal police statements, a 22-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries on-site, while four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, were hospitalized with injuries ranging from minor to severe. All the victims are Swiss residents, and their identities have not been disclosed to adhere to privacy regulations.
The incident unfolded in Aarau, the canton’s capital located 46 kilometers west of Zurich, during the Aarau Rave VOL. 7 at the Schachen horse racing track. Authorities were notified of the shooting around 2:30 a.m., prompting a significant police presence, with fire department personnel securing the area.
A manhunt is currently in progress, urging locals to avoid the vicinity. Swiss authorities, along with their counterparts in Freiburg, Germany, are actively searching for the suspect. Attendees initially mistook the gunshots for fireworks until a warning prompted them to take cover.
Following the conclusion of the rave, the shooting transpired, leading police to relocate the remaining attendees to a nearby gym for safety. Authorities are appealing to witnesses possessing photos or videos of the incident to cooperate with the investigation.
The Aargau Racing Club, which manages the venue, expressed shock and sympathy for the victims and their families, commending the emergency responders for their swift and professional actions.
