Heading into the final two rounds, Henderson trails clubhouse leader Soo Bin Joo of South Korea by four strokes, with Joo holding a score of 9 under at Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair Golf Club. Henderson was cruising at 7 under before encountering a couple of back-nine bogeys, one resulting in her tee shot veering left and hitting a spectator. She promptly apologized to the individual and offered her a golf ball.
Aphrodite Deng from Calgary, the tournament’s top amateur last year in Mississauga, Ontario, closed her round with consecutive birdies, carding a 67 to reach 3 under.
The cut line at the $2.75-million US event requires the top 65 players and ties to advance. Canadian teenagers Anna Huang from Vancouver and Michelle Xing from Richmond Hill, Ontario, both started the day just three shots behind the lead at 5 under, with their tee times scheduled for the afternoon.
