Toronto Blue Jays’ star player Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been cleared to play after being removed from the seven-day injured list. He is set to join the team for their game against the New York Yankees. Guerrero sustained an injury during a game against the Yankees last week, following a collision with George Lombard Jr., a rookie shortstop for the New York team, on a play at third base in the sixth inning.
The incident occurred when Guerrero slid into third base and collided with Lombard’s knee and thigh, causing his helmet to come off. Despite the injury, Guerrero managed to score before leaving the game. Following his return to the team, Guerrero passed all necessary concussion tests and even participated in a minor league rehabilitation game with Dunedin, where he hit a double.
After the Blue Jays’ loss to the Yankees in the series opener on Friday, Guerrero was listed second in the batting order for Saturday’s game. In a corresponding move, Davis Schneider was sent down to triple-A Buffalo to make room for Guerrero’s return. Guerrero’s current season stats show a batting average of .263, with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Prior to his injury, he was on a hot streak, hitting .310 in his last seven games.
