In her first game for Vancouver, Alex Lamontagne netted two goals as the visiting Rise dominated the second half to defeat league leaders Ottawa Rapid 5-1 in Northern Super League action on Saturday in Ottawa. Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, who converted a penalty shot, also found the back of the net for the Rise, who scored three goals in a quick 10-minute span early in the second half and comfortably secured the victory at TD Place. Elise Bell managed to score a consolation goal for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, denying Jessica Wulf a clean sheet.
Following this win, the Rise climbed to fourth place in the league standings, edging past Halifax Tide by one point. Their record now stands at seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, accumulating 22 points. Ottawa Rapid maintains their top spot with 33 points, still three points ahead of Montreal Roses, after suffering their fourth loss of the season alongside ten wins and three draws.
During the match, Vancouver held a slight possession advantage of 53% compared to Ottawa’s 47% and outshot the hosts 17-8, with 11 shots on target to Ottawa’s 3. The Rise also won four out of the seven corner kicks awarded. Both teams received two yellow cards each.
Looking ahead, the Rise will face Calgary Wild at home on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will travel to meet AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
