Amazon Employee Found Dead in Warehouse, Colleagues Told to Keep Working

Date:

An Amazon employee was reportedly found deceased in an Oregon warehouse, with claims that colleagues were instructed to continue working and not assist the individual. The incident, which occurred on April 6 at the Troutdale distribution center, was allegedly kept quiet by Amazon, according to a report by The Western Edge.

A witness, identified as Sam, disclosed that despite seeing the lifeless body of the employee, they were told to ignore the situation and resume work by a manager. Another employee attempted CPR on the individual, prompting a desire among workers to help, but they were discouraged from intervening.

After emergency services arrived and the area was secured, employees were shocked by the response, with some blaming middle management for the perceived lack of empathy. The incident has raised concerns about the treatment of workers in large retail corporations, with Amazon facing previous allegations related to its US distribution centers.

An anonymous worker from the warehouse expressed disappointment in the leadership’s handling of the situation, emphasizing a feeling of replaceability among employees. In response, Amazon expressed condolences for the loss, provided support to the family of the deceased, and offered on-site counseling for affected employees.

Following the incident, site operations were temporarily halted, and staff were given the option of taking time off. Amazon clarified that the incident was deemed non-work related and expressed gratitude towards the law enforcement and emergency services involved.

This incident follows recent protests by Amazon workers highlighting alleged labor abuses and environmental concerns, reinforcing claims of mistreatment and expendability among employees in various locations.
