Shocking surveillance footage captures the harrowing moment a father of two struggled to free himself from a horrifying escalator incident at Davis Station in Massachusetts. Steven McClusky, aged 40, found himself ensnared in the escalator machinery after a misstep while disembarking.
The distressing video shows multiple passersby seemingly ignoring McClusky’s plight as he attempted to extricate himself. Despite his frantic efforts to release his trapped coat and breathe freely, he eventually collapsed, immobilized by the escalator.
McClusky was discovered pinned at the escalator’s base, unresponsive with his clothing tightly wedged in the mechanism. It took over 20 minutes for an employee to halt the escalator and for paramedics to administer CPR before he was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. Tragically, he remained in a coma for ten days before succumbing to his injuries on March 9.
In a poignant remembrance, his father emphasized McClusky’s deep love for his two sons, Shayne and Steven. The MBTA characterized the incident as a “terrible accident” and encouraged the public to assist those in need, but McClusky’s family demands accountability from the transport authority for his untimely death.
His sister, Shannon Flaherty, expressed her desire for the authority to acknowledge any potential wrongdoing, highlighting their quest for justice. An inquiry into the incident is currently underway, seeking to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
