“Australia Backs Removal of Prince Andrew from Succession”

Date:

Keir Starmer has finally addressed Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest following Australia’s support to exclude the former Prince from the royal line of succession. The Prime Minister’s spokesperson stated today that the government is open to all possibilities after reports surfaced last Friday about considering such a significant action. Australia recently became the first of the 14 British realms to endorse removing Andrew from the line of succession, a process that would necessitate an Act of Parliament.

In a letter to Mr. Starmer, Australian PM Anthony Albanese expressed support for any proposal to eliminate Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the royal line of succession. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation in light of the serious allegations surrounding Andrew.

Mr. Starmer’s spokesperson mentioned today that they are evaluating whether further measures are needed regarding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and are keeping all options on the table. Given the ongoing police inquiries, the government refrained from elaborating further at this stage.

Reports suggest that ministers may initiate discussions on removing Andrew from the line of succession once the ongoing police investigations into the allegations against him conclude. Any changes to the line of succession would necessitate approval from other Commonwealth countries where King Charles serves as the head of state.

Calls have also emerged for a broader investigation into Andrew’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has strongly denied any wrongdoing related to alleged sexual misconduct but has not responded to queries about his role as an envoy.

Downing Street mentioned on Monday that it is Parliament’s decision whether a special committee should investigate Andrew and Lord Peter Mandelson’s ties to Epstein. The official spokesperson stressed the importance of allowing the police investigation to proceed.

When asked about the possibility of the government initiating its own inquiry, the spokesperson reiterated the importance of letting the ongoing investigation run its course and emphasized cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

Andrew currently holds the eighth position in the line of succession after Princes William and Harry and their children. He was effectively stripped of his royal titles in October by the King following revelations in millions of documents concerning his connections to Epstein that were disclosed by the US State Department.
