“Avanti West Coast Offers Free Summer Getaways for Vulnerable Families”

Date:

Avanti West Coast has initiated a program to provide complimentary travel opportunities for vulnerable families to enjoy a summer holiday. Partnering with the Family Holiday Charity, the rail operator is offering breaks at various destinations along the West Coast Main Line, spanning from London to Glasgow and Edinburgh via the West Midlands and north-west England.

Families encountering financial difficulties, bereavement, caregiving responsibilities, housing instability, and domestic violence challenges are eligible for these getaways. Avanti West Coast’s customer experience director, Kathryn O’Brien, expressed pride in facilitating holidays for families who might not otherwise have the chance to partake in such experiences.

The initiative aims to offer families the chance to explore picturesque towns and seaside locations along the West Coast Main Line, providing a break from their daily routines. By nurturing relationships, creating lasting memories, and fostering reconnection, these trips offer invaluable opportunities for families.

Family Holiday Charity relies on referrals from sources like social workers and the NHS to identify and support individuals in need. Rob Parkinson, the charity’s chief executive, emphasized the importance of providing new experiences and memories for families, some of whom have never traveled together by rail.

Avanti West Coast plans to support six families with summer holiday travel initially, marking a pioneering effort within the rail industry. The Family Holiday Charity’s mission revolves around providing life-changing experiences for families facing various challenges, from financial constraints to illness and bereavement, by offering them the chance to make cherished memories together.

For instance, Tobi, a 12-year-old with a chronic medical condition, received assistance from the charity to enjoy a seaside stay in Essex with his family. This experience brought joy to Tobi and his family, reminiscent of their past days in Ghana, and provided a much-needed respite from their medical challenges.
