Baby killer Lucy Letby has taken on a new role in prison that is a stark departure from her previous nursing career, potentially boosting her popularity among fellow inmates.
Initially working in a cleaning position at HMP Bronzefield, Letby has now been promoted to a more comfortable role as a librarian within the women-only prison. This move has sparked jealousy among other prisoners, with reports indicating that Letby is thrilled about her new responsibilities.
Celebrating her 36th birthday last week, Letby is serving her 15 whole-life orders in Unit 4, an exclusive wing for enhanced inmates at the Surrey prison. Sources suggest that this new librarian position could help Letby gain favor with other prisoners, as she now has the opportunity to distribute books and entertainment items to fellow inmates.
Furthermore, Letby was swiftly granted an enhanced prisoner status shortly after her sentencing, allowing her to secure the coveted librarian role. This special status also entitles her to double the standard allowance for weekly visits, indicating certain privileges granted to her despite the severity of her crimes.
Letby, who was convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven others while working as a nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital, received 15 whole-life sentences. Originally from Hereford, she spent her recent birthday behind bars, receiving letters from admirers that her barrister described as a bittersweet reminder of her incarceration.
Despite the fan mail, Letby’s birthday celebration was a solemn affair, highlighting the harsh reality of spending another year in confinement.
