A beloved young teacher named Emily Rose Browning tragically passed away after consuming cocaine during a night out with friends, an inquest revealed. Described as kind and beautiful by those who knew her, Emily, a teacher at Gladstone Primary school in Cardiff, had been socializing with friends before heading to Cardiff city center on December 7, 2024.
After consuming alcohol and cocaine, Emily returned home with her boyfriend. Later, her boyfriend found her collapsed on the bedroom floor and unresponsive, prompting him to call emergency services. It was suspected that Emily had choked on her vomit, leading to her untimely death in the hospital on December 10.
The coroner determined that Emily’s death was alcohol and drug-related, likely caused by the combination of alcohol and illicit drugs, resulting in aspiration of vomit, cardiac arrest, and severe brain injury due to lack of oxygen. Her medical cause of death was identified as a brain injury linked to oxygen deprivation, with underlying factors of aspiration and acute alcohol and cocaine intoxication.
Emily, originally from Somerset, had settled in Cardiff after completing her studies in criminology and psychology. Following her tragic passing, her school announced plans to create a memorial garden in her honor, reflecting her warmth and compassion that touched the lives of many.
To support the creation of the memorial garden, Emily’s boyfriend initiated a fundraiser, which has now raised over £40,000. The initiative aims to celebrate Emily’s life and the positive impact she had on her students and colleagues, with many expressing their grief over her sudden and heartbreaking loss.
