Birmingham New Street station underwent an evacuation today following the sounding of alarms and a directive for the public to vacate the premises. An urgent announcement broadcasted at the train station instructed all individuals present to treat the situation as an emergency.
Commuters were promptly requested to exit the building through the nearest available exit at precisely 5:45 pm. A video captured the announcement blaring over the station speakers, emphasizing the need for immediate evacuation by stating, “Attention please, attention please. This is an emergency. Please leave the building using the nearest available exit.”
On-site reporter Mimi Ibrahim from the Express & Star relayed that the public was outside for a brief period of approximately three minutes before being permitted to re-enter the station to catch their trains. Ibrahim described the experience as unusual, with the only instruction being to evacuate through the speaker system before swiftly being allowed back inside.
Inquiries have been made to Network Rail and the British Transport Police by the Mirror for official statements regarding the incident.
