In the ongoing search for a missing teenager, a body has been discovered.
Hailey Buzbee, aged 17, went missing close to a month ago, prompting an extensive search effort. Reports suggest Hailey left home to stay with an individual she had been communicating with online, residing in a temporary rental in Indiana. The individual, identified as 39-year-old Tyler Thomas, was taken into custody during the investigation.
The body that was found is believed to be Hailey’s. There are indications that Thomas assisted authorities in locating the girl’s remains. Police Chief Ed Gebhart stated during a press briefing on Sunday that “He confessed to picking up Hailey from her residence and disclosed dropping her off on the side of the road in western Ohio.”
Tributes are pouring in for Hailey, who disappeared on January 5. Fishers’ mayor, Scott Fadness, described Hailey as a “bright presence in the community,” noting her significant potential and optimism.
Thomas has been detained on charges related to a minor and evidence tampering, as per Franklin County jail records. Formal charges against him are pending.
Following Hailey’s disappearance in Fishers, law enforcement classified her as an “endangered missing minor.” Authorities later expressed concerns about her well-being, which were tragically confirmed over the weekend. The remains were discovered in Perry County, Ohio, approximately 230 miles from Fishers. It is anticipated that, if prosecuted, Thomas will plead not guilty.
This incident follows the recent case of a 19-year-old individual named Adam, who was reported missing from Yatton, Somerset, a few days earlier. Officials confirmed the discovery of a body during the search for Adam post his disappearance. The circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death are not suspicious. A representative from Avon and Somerset Police remarked: “We have unfortunate news to share. While the identification process is ongoing, his family has been notified, and our thoughts are with them. Foul play is not suspected in this case.”
