“Bomb Plot Thwarted: Hospital Patient Persuades Terrorist for Hug, Prevents Disaster”

Date:

A courageous hospital patient has shared how he successfully persuaded a solo terrorist from setting off a bomb at a maternity hospital after the potential attacker requested a hug. Nathan Newby, the brave individual, used compassion to prevent a disastrous incident as Mohammad Farooq aimed to harm as many nurses as possible.

Engaging in a two-hour conversation and offering a few hugs, Nathan managed to convince armed Farooq to contact the police before changing his mind. Recalling the encounter with Mohammad Farooq, Nathan mentioned his attempt to defuse the situation by discussing with Farooq and involving the authorities in the dialogue.

Farooq, who was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 37 years, had planned a devastating attack at St James’s Hospital in Leeds using a homemade bomb and weapons. Fortunately, Nathan intervened, diverting Farooq’s attention and averting the potential tragedy.

Recognizing Nathan’s exceptional bravery, Mrs. Justice Cheema-Grubb commended his actions, stating that his decency and kindness on that day prevented a catastrophic event. Nathan, scheduled to receive the George Medal for his heroic deeds, expressed his belief that Farooq was simply struggling at that moment and emphasized the importance of being in the right place at the right time.

Farooq, described as a self-radicalized lone-wolf terrorist with ties to extremist groups, had also planned attacks on other locations. Nathan, who found himself face to face with Farooq on the night of the planned bombing, approached him with empathy, eventually convincing him to move away from the hospital entrance.

Reflecting on the encounter, Nathan highlighted the importance of remaining calm and tactical in handling the situation. He shared that despite initial fear, his focus was on protecting the lives of others and ensuring Farooq’s removal from the vicinity. The significance of his actions only fully dawned on him after the incident, emphasizing the potential gravity of the situation.

Describing the remarkable interaction with Farooq, Nathan emphasized understanding and not judging individuals based on their circumstances. His quick thinking and instinctive response were pivotal in preventing a tragic outcome, leading to the recognition of his courageous efforts by authorities and the public.
