Brave Mother Awaiting Kidney Donor Passes Away

Date:

A brave mother who had been awaiting a kidney donor for over five years has sadly passed away. Claire Boland, from Stockport, Greater Manchester, suffered a severe brain hemorrhage before her untimely death on Saturday, April 4. Despite her rare blood type, which significantly reduced her chances of finding a match, Claire had lost hope of securing a suitable donor last year.

Despite the efforts of friends, family, and loved ones who came forward to be tested, no compatible donor was found. Claire experienced the brain hemorrhage while at a bingo outing with her mother and best friend. It remains uncertain whether this incident was related to her previous health issues.

Claire is survived by her husband Damien, her two daughters Ileana and Elodie, aged two and 13, respectively, and other family members. The Manchester Evening News reported the tragic news of her passing.

Claire’s struggle with health issues began at a young age when she was diagnosed with type one diabetes at eight years old. Approximately seven years ago, she developed end-stage kidney failure, necessitating intensive treatments like haemodialysis, iron transfusions, and frequent medical visits, all while managing her diabetes.

In a plea for help just five months ago, Claire expressed her desperation in finding a donor, as traditional transplant and living donor lists had not been successful for her. Despite her efforts, a matching donor never emerged. Claire’s mother recounted the sudden onset of the brain hemorrhage during a seemingly ordinary outing, leading to her hospitalization and eventual passing.

Medical professionals disclosed that Claire’s brain hemorrhage was too critical for intervention, and any surgical attempts would have posed high risks. Following several days of fighting, Claire passed away on April 4. Her family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and provide support for Damien and their children.

Remembering Claire, her mother described her as a resilient and selfless individual who always prioritized her family. Claire’s ultimate dream was to travel with her daughters, a wish hindered by dialysis restrictions. Despite her challenges, she remained positive and fought relentlessly. The sudden loss has deeply affected her family, who are now rallying around Damien and the children for support.
