Authorities are cautioning the public against approaching a fugitive prisoner who escaped custody close to three months ago. The search for Darnell Smith, 27, who fled HMP Springhill in Buckinghamshire, is ongoing. Smith is approximately 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, and was last spotted wearing all black attire during his escape on January 28.
Thames Valley Police disclosed that Smith has connections to Croydon, south London, and Plumstead, Surrey, as well as other areas in Surrey and Sussex. Authorities emphasize that Smith is currently at large and advise against engaging with him.
Individuals who encounter Smith are urged to contact 999 immediately. Information regarding his whereabouts can be shared by calling 101 or submitting online tips with reference number 43260045393. Thames Valley Police has issued a plea for information on their Facebook page, resulting in widespread sharing of the post.
This incident follows the escape of Daniel Boakye, 21, who absconded from Lewisham Hospital in southeast London in February. Boakye, facing deportation to Ghana, had previously gone missing from hospital while under the supervision of prison staff. Despite being recaptured in Thamesmead, southeast London, Boakye managed to escape again, prompting a renewed warning from law enforcement to avoid approaching him. Boakye had been sentenced to six years and five months in July 2023 for a series of cryptocurrency knifepoint robberies totaling £115,000, along with three others.
