“British Airways to Resume Daily Flights to Melbourne in 2027”

Date:

British Airways has announced the resumption of daily flights to Melbourne, a popular destination for UK travelers, coinciding with major global sporting events. The airline will be reintroducing flights to Melbourne after a 20-year absence, starting in January 2027. These flights will operate year-round from London Heathrow, with a layover in Kuala Lumpur, on a daily basis.

Passengers traveling on these flights will have the option to choose from First, World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and Club World (business class) cabins. Return fares starting from £1,130, inclusive of taxes and carrier fees, are now available for booking.

British Airways ceased operations to Melbourne Airport in 2006, relying on other carriers for the London-Melbourne route. Melbourne Airport’s CEO, Lorie Argus, expressed enthusiasm about British Airways’ return, emphasizing Melbourne’s status as Australia’s largest and most well-connected 24-hour gateway.

The move is part of British Airways’ strategic expansion plans for winter 2026, which also includes adding Colombo in Sri Lanka to its network. Melbourne Airport’s accessibility, coupled with London’s significance as a global hub for business, tourism, and education, is expected to drive demand in both directions, supported by Melbourne’s recent accolades and its sizable British expat community.

The reestablishment of flights to Melbourne signifies British Airways’ commitment to enhancing connectivity and providing travelers with more options for their journeys.
