Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to a new all-time low. The company has introduced a surprise promotion that reduces the cost of its high-speed Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
The Gig1 package provides ultra-fast speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and typically retails at £29.99 per month. However, it is currently available for just £26.99, resulting in a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract, equivalent to around 87p per day.
According to Virgin, this discounted rate represents the most competitive pricing ever offered for its Gig1 plan. With these remarkable speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
While households with 70Mbps speeds may experience game downloads taking over 90 minutes, Virgin’s Gig1 plan ensures seamless streaming and online gaming with its rapid connection. It is important to note that the promotional rate of £26.99 will increase twice during the minimum term, reaching £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028.
Additionally, the ultra-high 1,130Mbps speeds may not be accessible to all UK households, so it is advisable to verify availability using Virgin’s postcode checker. When compared to competitors like Sky, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal offers superior value. Even with Sky reducing its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, Virgin remains the more economical choice with faster speeds.
In contrast, BT’s 900Mbps connection is priced at £37.99, highlighting Virgin’s competitive pricing. Consumers should also explore alternative network providers, as several emerging alt-nets in the UK offer cost-effective options.
For individuals assessing their broadband needs, not everyone requires speeds as high as 1Gbps. A couple streaming Netflix daily in a flat may suffice with speeds around 100Mbps, while larger households engaged in remote work, downloading content, and online gaming may benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps.
Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre connection is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly in your home, ensuring smooth and efficient internet access.
