A duo of companions embarked on a spontaneous journey to Italy for the day, managing to keep expenses at a mere £120, covering airport parking fees and bus fares. Megan Stiles and her close friend, Romany Coppola, took off from Stansted Airport on a 6:10 am flight to Verona, with round-trip tickets costing only £38 each.
Upon arrival at their destination shortly after 9 am local time, the pair opted for an all-inclusive £10 bus ride to Lake Garda to kick off their morning. They spent the hours exploring the scenic lakeside town, indulging in souvenir shopping and basking in the sunny weather.
For lunch, Megan, aged 23, savored an £8 margarita pizza while Romany, aged 22, chose a £13 penne arrabbiata. Additionally, they allocated £20 for beverages. After their Lake Garda adventure, they hopped on a £6 bus to Verona, where they strolled through the historic city in the afternoon before making their way back to the airport later in the evening.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the trip, Megan, a resident of Colchester, Essex, shared, “I’ve engaged in several day trips previously and couldn’t resist the affordability of visiting Verona, especially being a pasta and pizza enthusiast.”
“Italy holds a special place in my heart. In total, including souvenirs, I spent around £120. It was definitely a more budget-friendly choice compared to a London-bound train journey and activities,” she added.
“Initially, our plan was solely to visit Verona, but overhearing a fellow passenger inquire about Lake Garda during landing sparked our interest. We discovered the proximity of the lake from the airport and decided to seize the opportunity,” Megan explained.
Reflecting on the unexpected detour to Lake Garda, she remarked, “Exploring a new city, or in this case, two cities in one day, was an incredibly enjoyable experience. Not everyone gets the chance to do this, and I consider myself fortunate, albeit feeling quite fatigued by the end of the day.”
After catching a 10:50 pm flight back to Verona, they returned to Stansted just before midnight UK time. Despite the exhaustion from a day that saw them cover 25,000 steps, Megan affirmed that the adventure was undeniably rewarding.
“This day trip was absolutely fantastic, the best by far. I enjoyed it so much that I’ve already made plans to return,” she expressed.
According to Megan, friends and family were astounded by their whirlwind escapade, with many labeling them as daring, including fellow passengers on the plane. “My family is still in disbelief over the extent of traveling we managed in just one day. While the exploration was remarkable, after those 25,000 steps, I was utterly exhausted on the flight back home,” she concluded.
