A British man has gone missing while swimming at Peneco Beach in southern Portugal, prompting a search operation. The 23-year-old was last seen with a 19-year-old UK national who managed to exit the water safely. However, the older man remains unaccounted for at sea.
Authorities, including expert divers and police, are actively searching for the missing individual. The National Maritime Authority posted an update on Facebook stating that search efforts were halted for the night and will resume the following morning.
The 19-year-old companion of the missing man is reported to be in good physical condition and has not required medical attention. The British Embassy in Portugal is assisting in contacting the missing man’s family and providing support to the 19-year-old.
Search operations were conducted by various teams, including maritime police, lifeguards, and volunteer firefighters, both on land and at sea. The search is set to continue as efforts persist to locate the missing British national in Portugal.
