A man from Britain, identified as Salis Hanrahan, was fatally shot by a Vietnam veteran in what has been described as a connection to a group involved in fraudulent activities. Hanrahan, 20, was working on the residence of George Barr, 75, in Philadelphia when the incident occurred last Wednesday. Despite being shot in the chest, Hanrahan managed to flee the house but collapsed on the street and succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Reports suggest that Hanrahan, believed to have entered the United States illegally, was associated with an organization known as “The Traveling Conman Fraud Group.” This group, classified as a criminal gang by the FBI, comprises individuals from Britain and Ireland who engage in deceptive practices by overcharging for construction work that is often left incomplete. Authorities have not disclosed specifics regarding Hanrahan’s ties to organized crime or whether Barr was a deliberate target.
The victim’s spouse, Roseann, shared a heartfelt message on social media along with a photo of the couple, expressing deep affection for her late husband. Hanrahan leaves behind his wife and a daughter.
According to police, the shooting took place while contractors were present outside Barr’s residence, leading to Barr being charged with murder, possession of a weapon, and endangering another person. Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing.
Speaking on the development, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed that Salis Hanrahan was an undocumented immigrant from the UK, having been denied authorization to travel due to his alleged association with the criminal group in question. The statement highlighted that authorities had no prior encounters with Hanrahan.
Neighbors of Barr expressed shock over the incident, describing him as a retired firefighter, a war veteran, and an active member of the local community. Barr has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway as the case unfolds.
