Nearly half of the British public are against the recent military strikes on Iran by Donald Trump, according to a new poll. The survey conducted by YouGov revealed that 49% of respondents opposed the actions taken by the US President, while only 28% supported them. Additionally, the poll showed that 50% of voters disapproved of the use of RAF bases for launching attacks on Iran, even if the bombings were targeted at missile sites.
The survey of 4,132 adults also found that 45% of participants believe the UK should neither praise nor condemn the US for the attacks on Iran. Prime Minister Boris Johnson initially refused to allow UK bases to be used in the strikes, but later granted permission for the US military to use the bases to target Iran’s missile launchers and storage facilities.
In response to the military action, Donald Trump criticized the UK Prime Minister for not fully supporting the American military actions. Opposition leader Keir Starmer voiced strong opposition to regime change through military means, citing lessons learned from past conflicts like the Iraq war.
The Foreign Office is actively exploring various options to evacuate British nationals from the region, with over 102,000 individuals already registering for assistance. The YouGov poll also highlighted varying levels of support for the military action, with Reform party voters showing the highest support at 36%, while only 5% of Labour supporters backed the US actions.
Meanwhile, Nigel Farage criticized the Prime Minister’s response to the crisis, labeling it as “frankly pathetic” for not allowing British bases to be used in targeting Iran. Farage expressed his belief that the US and Israel were justified in their actions and criticized the UK government for its perceived inaction.
