A tragic incident has claimed the life of a British rugby player who was on a family vacation in Turkey. Scot James, aged 34, was declared brain dead in Turkey on July 11 following an alleged assault. He was later transported back to the UK via air ambulance and passed away on Sunday at The Royal Glamorgan hospital in Wales.
James, a member of Maesteg Celtic RFC, was remembered as a beloved family man in tributes shared on social media. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated to support the family during their extended stay in Turkey to be with Scot during his final days.
In a heartfelt update on the GoFundMe page, Scot’s sister, Hannah, announced his passing and detailed the family’s journey from Turkey to the UK. The Foreign Office has confirmed its collaboration with local authorities in response to the incident.
The Maesteg Celtics RFC expressed their grief over the loss of Scot, describing him as an exceptional player and a cherished friend. Efforts to obtain comments from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Turkish Police Foreign Relations Office are ongoing.
