“Cat Caretaker Admits Fatal Attack, Receives Suspended Sentence”

Date:

A woman entrusted with caring for a cat admitted to fatally harming the animal within a day and claimed to have lost control during the attack. Chloe Stanley, also known as McNally, confessed to feeling overwhelmed and experiencing a burst of anger that led to the tragic incident, as revealed in Newcastle Crown Court.

The 22-year-old from North Shields took in the cat, named Ash, after its previous owner sought assistance. The cat had been deemed problematic, with suggestions for euthanasia made by a charity. Seeking help, the owner reached out to Stanley, who identified herself as a behaviorist and was found through the Pets for Homes website.

Tragically, Ash passed away just one day after being in Stanley’s care on December 2. Concerns arose on December 5, prompting a police visit to Stanley’s residence. During questioning, she provided a feeble justification for her actions, claiming she blanked out during the attack due to escalating anger.

Reports indicate that the former owner observed concerning behavior from Stanley when she collected Ash on November 30, 2024. Stanley’s actions, including hissing, using a bottle of rice to scare the cat, and stomping on the floor, raised alarms. Despite objections, Stanley insisted on taking Ash.

Later, Stanley sent distressing images of Ash to the previous owner, leading to suspicions of the cat’s demise. Admitting to her actions when arrested for animal cruelty, Stanley confessed to not disclosing the truth about Ash’s passing. She stated that she used a dog slip lead to cause the cat’s death, a fact confirmed by a post-mortem examination showing signs of trauma.

Stanley pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and received a 10-month suspended sentence, along with a ten-year ban on keeping animals. The judge condemned her actions, emphasizing the severity of the offense and the animal’s suffering. Stanley’s defense highlighted her immaturity, mental health struggles, and difficult past, underscoring her need for assistance and support.
