Convicted Child Murderer Ian Huntley Assaulted in Prison

Date:

Ian Huntley, a convicted child murderer, was assaulted in prison and left in critical condition earlier today. Huntley, aged 52, is currently serving a life sentence for the brutal killings of schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, a crime that deeply shocked the nation. Reports suggest that Huntley was targeted by another inmate at HMP Frankland in County Durham before 9:30 a.m. The attack, which occurred in a prison workshop, involved Huntley being struck in the head with a metal pole, resulting in significant injuries and him being transported to a hospital.

The incident caused turmoil within the prison walls, with sources describing the scene as chaotic following the assault. While the Prison Services did not officially confirm the identity of the injured inmate, a spokesperson acknowledged that a prisoner had been taken to the hospital. Authorities refrained from providing further details, citing an ongoing police investigation.

HMP Frankland has housed several high-profile inmates, including notorious figures like serial killer Levi Bellfield and killer-rapist police officer Wayne Couzens. The facility is known to offer incentives like games consoles and DVD players to well-behaved prisoners. Huntley, who previously had his Xbox confiscated due to misconduct, was found with unauthorized items in his cell, including DVDs, USB sticks, and magazines.

Huntley, a former school caretaker from Cambridgeshire, was convicted of the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2003 and sentenced to life imprisonment. A judicial ruling in 2005 mandated that he serve a minimum of 40 years before being eligible for parole, setting a potential release date in 2042. The tragic deaths of the two young girls, whose bodies were discovered near RAF Lakenheath, were attributed to asphyxiation, but the exact circumstances remain undisclosed.
