In a tragic incident in Baundi, Uttar Pradesh, India, a 12-year-old boy named Sunil was attacked by a crocodile while washing his hands in a river with his uncle. The horrifying moment was captured on video as the reptile emerged from the water and dragged the boy in, despite desperate attempts by bystanders to intervene.
The attack occurred around 6pm when Sunil and his uncle, Vijay Raj Singh, took a break from planting rice seedlings to clean up. Singh raised the alarm as the crocodile pulled the boy underwater, triggering a futile rescue effort using bricks, stones, and sticks.
After a prolonged struggle, the crocodile dragged Sunil deeper into the water before disappearing. Local residents launched a search operation with bamboo poles and eventually recovered Sunil’s body late that evening. Authorities confirmed that the boy had suffered severe injuries, including partial consumption of his right leg and abdomen.
Sunil, an orphan under his uncle’s care, leaves behind siblings. State authorities have announced compensation for the family, and forest officials are monitoring the area following the tragic incident. Despite the presence of crocodiles in the Ghanghara River, local residents continue to use the waterway for daily activities.
